I am the Master of My Fate

The animation movie INSIDE OUT is probably one of the best movies that describe how our emotions work by giving them a persona as if they are people inside our heads. Each emotion is presented by a character resembling that emotion, like Sadness, happiness, anger, etc. Depending on who from them is holding the steering wheel in our heads, our actions will respond accordingly. What truly got me in the movie was how the character, Sadness, was able, by touching memory balls, to affect the outcome and next steps of Riley’s life. In case you did not see the movie, Riley, the hero character, is a little girl having trouble adjusting to the move from the Midwest to San Francisco and missing her friends, school, and her old life. Hence when Sadness is behind the steering wheel, the brain attracts sorrow and negativity. Suddenly, more problems began around Riley, and all her actions added more trouble to her life.

We attract the thoughts we empower in our minds. If we allow fear to control us, we will always fail and attract failure as a damaging conviction of our beliefs. If deep down we are not confident we can win that job or succeed in our project, or whatever that goal you have in mind, if deep down you don’t honestly believe that you deserve it, then your subconscious mind will follow your orders and fulfill your wish, and you will never succeed.

We all have two minds in our brains, the conscious mind that we use to practice life as we know it and the subconscious mind that performs all activities we do on a subconscious level. Think of the subconscious mind as an army cadet; whatever orders he gets from his army general, aka your conscious mind, he will follow to the bone, word by word, no questions asked, and when asked to do something, he does it with perfection. For example, imagine driving home after a long day at the office. This process has become so automated in our heads that we hardly think about the road or the direction we are taking. Suddenly, you are home without noticing and probably thinking about a million things while driving. How did that happen? Simply put, your subconscious mind was holding the steering wheel.

A few months ago, I signed up for a course to improve my personal financial identity and knowledge, better manage my finances, and grow them to my aspirations. Little that I know that the way we understand money and its current and historical value in our lives plays a significant role in our ability to make it grow. I have learned much about the subconscious mind’s role in dealing with money and how that can help make a difference. After this course, I can tell you, with confidence, that I am now a man on a mission on this front. Stay tuned.

This concept is not new, as all religions and ancient philosophies teach their followers that positive thinking and having faith in Allah, God, the universe, or whatever supreme being you believe in will get your prayers answered, one way or another. Hence, this is not a theological scripture, as anyone, regardless of their religion, can get their prayers answered if they know how to use the power of their subconscious mind. If you genuinely believe you will get what you asked for, you will get it. Deep inside, you have to believe that you will get it and deserve it to get. Granted, of course, it does not entail hurting yourself or others. This sounds like just another speech on positivity and the effects of the law of attraction, but it’s more than just a speech. You see, scientists have studied the powers of the subconscious mind, confirming its capabilities in impacting our lives the way we wish and that our thoughts and emotional state dictate what we attract into our lives.

There is a verse in the Quran with simple and clear instructions on how to get your prayers answered. The verse reads, “Call on to me, and I will respond to you.” [Quran 40:60]. God says that if we pray for something, we must believe he will grant us that wish. We need to put in the effort, hard work, and time with firm conviction that we will get it and that he will grant us that prayer. We are well-equipped with all that is needed to succeed and prosper. We just need to know how to use those powers of the subconscious mind.

Who among us never talked to ourselves with negative thoughts and feelings of guilt for one reason or another, and then things are just getting worse? Only when we decide to stand up and “change the way we think” about the situation (positive affirmations to the mind) does the situation get better. Mind you, the subconscious mind is not magic; instead, it’s the engine that allows you to create that magic, provided, of course, that you still have to do all the hard work related to achieving your goal. It is the energy source to your body and soul, so you cannot move forward without that energy, and you cannot grow or succeed in anything you want or desire until you direct your subconscious mind to do so. In short, to have different results, you need to change your behavior; to do that, you need to change your emotional state. So whether you are having a bad or a good day, know that it was your choice and your decision, depending on how you directed your subconscious mind to set your day.

“The Power of Your Subconscious Mind” by Dr. Joseph Murphy is one of the best books on this subject that talks about the powers of the subconscious mind and how to use it to your advantage. Keep in mind that the subconscious mind doesn’t know if what you are saying to yourself is accurate or if you are feeling down or just kidding. Like any good soldier, it will take it at face value and follow through. The book also talks about the most critical moments in your day when you need to pay attention to your thoughts during those moments, and those are the last 10-15 min before you fall asleep and the first 10-15 min after waking up. It would be best to be mindful of what thoughts you feed your mind at those times to ensure they are all positive affirmations. You cannot have an important presentation in the morning, and all you are thinking about before going to bed is how bad you will be or allowing fear to consume you, as that is just setting yourself up for failure. Instead, you must believe you will kick ass and do great. You need to imagine visually in your head that you will do great and picture yourself on stage presenting or in front of your management. Only then will your subconscious mind take that order to heart and give you all the confidence and energy you need.

Based on my personal practice, here is what I would recommend you do:

  1. Start with my top three wishes or dreams, or desires.
  2. Write them down in a specific, measurable way.
  3. Use positive connotations, and avoid any negative or passive words like “I don’t want” or wish someone else harm.
  4. Avoid using words like “I wish”; instead, I used affirmative words like “I will” or “I am.”
  5. Visualize each wish in your head as if you already have it.
  6. Write down how each wish would affect your life by having a precise scenario in your head.
  7. Read those affirmations aloud several times a day with a strong, confident voice, as if you have already achieved them, especially before going to bed and once you wake up, with a few times in between, for a few weeks.

Personally, I have six affirmations I have repeated several times a day for the past two months, and so far, it is working for me. So let me share one of my affirmative statements for your reference: “From now on, I will be better at managing my money, and I will attract money and wealth in abundance, and I will hit my financial target of amount XXX by date XXX.”

Once upon a time, a little girl asked her father: “If everything in my destiny is written already, then why should I wish?” The father replied: “Maybe on some pages, it says, as you wish.”
